On this website you will have access to an abundance of images and information about the rebirth of Georgetown Raceway. The restoration of the Georgetown Raceway, which was once a source of considerable pride for Sussex County, Delaware, is desperately needed. Many of our local residents remember going to the raceway and enjoying harness racing from the comfort of the grand Club House. But the grandeur of the track has been replaced with deteriorated structures, and is in a state of complete disrepair. But think of what it could be, and what this restoration project means to Southern Delaware and the Sussex County Seat of Georgetown.
These phases were designed with Sussex County in mind. The rebirth of this historic harness racing site is a redevelopment project that does not impact or disturb any existing greenfields, farmland or open spaces. Modest in scale and not excessive or overdone, the architecture of the proposed restaurants, casino & hotel blend seamlessly with the scale and design of existing historic buildings in Georgetown and throughout Southern Delaware. The most exciting aspect of this restoration project is that Georgetown Downs & Casino will bring the sport of harness racing back to Sussex County, something both local residents and ocean resort visitors will enjoy. At the same time, and perhaps most importantly, this project brings long-term employment opportunities for local residents.
